Cellar 59 Wine Bar and Wine Shop -- Stow, OH

On Wednesday we went out with our friends to celebrate our usual mid-week wine Wednesday. We stumbled upon Cellar 59 by accident while traveling from Chapel Hill mall to Stow, when we saw the wine bar sign, we decided to add it to our list of places to check out. Our wine Wednesday events are pretty hit or miss. When our first friend arrived there weren't many people there, but after a half hour or so many of the tables we filled.

Cellar 59 has a small list of wines that you can order by the glass or you can choose a bottle from their wine shop and for a $10 corking fee they'll chill the bottle if necessary and open it for your table. I guess split between the three of us an extra $10 really wasn't that big of a deal, but I wish they had said something when we chose the bottle of wine, instead it appears at the bottom of the menu in tiny print. I probably would have preferred a glass of wine for a much cheaper price.

Both our wines required ice buckets, once they chilled them for us, they were brought table side for us.

A review is not complete without a sampling of the food items. Our friends kept it pretty basic and ordered the Quattro Formaggi pizza, our server said all pizzas are slightly smaller than a traditional small pizza -- perfect for two people to share.

Dave and I decided to split two appetizers the Hummus and Pita.

And the Artichoke & Asiago Dip which is served with a roasted red pepper pesto flat bread.

I thought both were good, I think my preference was the Artichoke and Asiago Dip with the flat bread. The flat bread paired nicely with the dip and both went well with the wine we had ordered. Neither of us had eaten dinner and were pretty satisfied with these appetizers.

Cellar 59 offers several other pizzas, small plates, and cheese board options. If you decide to order wine by the glass, they have included pairing suggestions for you in the menu.

Of course, we never leave a place without trying the dessert selection. Dave and I opted for the Chocolate Fudge Peanut Butter Cake. I don't love chocolate cake, but peanut butter is my kryponite and I will order dessert that includes it everywhere I go.

This piece was perfect for sharing and that peanut butter frosting was divine.

Our friends ordered the Nutella "smoosh-mallow" which was a flat bread topped with Nutella, toasted marshmallows and graham cracker. Dave tried a small piece and enjoyed the "smoosh-mallow", but overall thought that the chocolate peanut butter cake was better.

The wine connoisseur of our group thought the wine selection was okay. I liked all of the options on the menu, some wine places only give you the option for appetizer type items, at Cellar 59 if you wanted to eat a more filling meal you were easily able to do so. We were happy with our service and we'd likely stop back after a shopping trip to Stow or something, but Cellar 59 was not so memorable that I'd make a point of bringing out of town guests to stop by.

My review for Cellar 59 Wine Bar and Wine Shop:
