Collision Bend Brewing Company -- Cleveland, OH

Another part of our Cleveland adventure last weekend was dinner at Collision Bend Brewing Company in the Flats East Bank neighborhood of Cleveland. We were already planning on being in the Flats for an event (blog coming soon), so a friend recommended that we check out Collision Bend Brewing Company after the event. Since Dave and I are both vegetarian, the small plates concept that they offer was perfect, because everyone was able to try a wide variety of plates and we knew that we could easily order vegetarian meals.

As of the date we were there, Collision Bend Brewing Company had been nominated for a Reader's Choice award for Best Brewpub in the U.S. for USA Today's 10 Best contest, and was ranked in first place. The results will be announce this Friday on the 23rd. Collision Bend Brewing Company touts its artisanal brews and freshly prepared Southern California Street Food as the reason it is unique.

Since there were six of us we made a reservation about a week and a hal…

Brunch at Paladar Latin Kitchen & Rum Bar-- Woodmere, OH

This past weekend we went out with friends to several different restaurants and events in the Cleveland area and had a blast. Sunday morning we ended our time together with brunch at Paladar Latin Kitchen & Rum Bar in Woodmere. In 2007, Paladar opened in Woodmere -- now the restaurant group has four other location across the U.S. and has a sister concept named BOMBA Tacos in three Northeast Ohio locations. With a group of six people sometimes it can be difficult to agree on a place that suits everyone's tastes, but due to the number of offerings on the brunch menu we had no issue finding something everyone wanted at Paladar.

Brunch is served on Saturday and Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. We arrived pretty early in the morning with our reservation being at 11:30, by the time we left at 2:00 the restaurant was pretty full. I would highly recommend making a reservation if you plan to go to brunch with a large group.

We started off with a round of classic mimosas and an orde…

Chocolate Walk -- Kent, OH

The Kent Chocolate Walk hosted by Main Street Kent has been going on for the last few years, but we've always had another event. This year due to there being so many interested participants the website kept crashing on the day to buy tickets and I happened to snag one when there were about 20 left.

Think of the Kent Chocolate Walk like adult trick or treating with no costumes, you walk from business to business picking up chocolate which gives you an opportunity to explore places in Kent you might not have previously visited. In our case it also helped provide some additional traffic to Kent businesses on a rainy, cold February day -- we stopped at both Tree City Coffee & Pastry for coffee and Belleria Pizza & Italian Restaurant for a slice of pizza after we were done at the Chocolate Walk.

For the 2018 Chocolate Walk the following businesses participated:
-Belleria Pizza & Italian Restaurant -Bent Tree Coffee Roasters -Carnaby Street Style -Cracked Escape** -Downtow…

Kurent Jump -- Cleveland, OH

We attended the 2018 Kurent Jump after learning about the event last year during the 2017 Kurentovanje at the Slovenian National Home. In addition to the Kurent Jump, there are events all week long leading up to Kurentovanje. The Cleveland Kurentovanje Facebook page is the best place to stay up to date on the information for each event. While Kurentovanje itself is always hosted at the Slovenian National Home on St. Clair Avenue, the Kurent Jump is hosted at a different local business each year. This year the event was hosted in collaboration with Skidmark Garage and Ingenuity Fest.

The Kurent Jump is the debut of the Kurents and takes place on Friday night directly before the festivities kick off on Saturday. Essentially, the Kurent jump is a party centering around the Kurents. Kurentovanje originated in Ptuj, Slovenia about 55 years ago. The event always takes place before Mardi Gras and in Slovenia Kurentovanje draws 100,000 people yearly with 800 Kurents marching in the processio…
