West Main St. Winery -- Ravenna, OH

Image
When I first started this blog Dave and I were living in our first apartment in Ravenna, OH studying for the Ohio bar exam. Several moves and new jobs later, Dave is back to work in the city and when a coworker told him about a new winery opening just around the corner from his office and our old apartment were were certainly intrigued.

Opening day for West Main St. Winery started at noon this past Friday and Dave, my coworker Sarah, and I headed over around 5:00 p.m. The space was pretty full when we arrived, a big group had pushed together several tables, but we snagged one of the last four person tables available. The tasting room overlooks Main Street, with future plans to renovate the second floor to a meeting/party room. The Wades purchased the building two-and-a-half years ago and have been renovating the space which was built in 1875 ever since.

Unlike the Ohio wineries that grow their own grapes, owners Jim and Deanne Wade purchase grape juice from all over the world and Jim…

SHY Cellars Two: Pop Up Edible Experience -- North Canton, OH

We made reservations at SHY Cellars Two Thursday night. Shy Cellars Two has been operating every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday night from 5pm-10pm starting April 19, through May 19. The Shy Cellars' pop-up is able to accommodate vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, and food allergies if you let them know when you make your reservation.

After Thanksgiving, the owners of Twisted Citrus in North Canton opened up a popular one month pop-up at their That Christmas Bar at TD's Tailgate, the innovation continued with the opening of Shy Cellars Two in the Twisted Citrus location.

SHY Cellars, located in Strasburg, is operated by Executive Chef and Owner Sherry Schie, who focuses on seasonal ingredients sourced from the local area. SHY Cellars Two has a menu that changes weekly, including a cheese cart. There were two servers from Shy Cellars, Sheri  and Traci, and two from TD’s Tailgate (owned by the owner's of Twisted Citrus), Amadeus and Alyssa. Traci waited on us and was incredibl…

Chocolate Fest 2018 -- Cleveland, OH

Image
I waited three weeks to write this post, because like with Cheese Fest, I needed time to reflect on the experience so that I could give accurate feedback about our time at the Cleveland Chocolate Fest. We've attended both large and small events hosted by Taste CLE and have always loved their smaller wine dinners, but Cheese Fest had been a little bit of a logistical mess in August. I noticed the Cleveland Chocolate Fest was also at the Lago events space, but unlike at Cheese Fest everything was indoors for this event due to the weather being colder (it would have been lovely if we could have enjoyed the patio/lawn space though).
The promise? With our early bird tickets of $35 a piece, unlimited samples and a glass of champagne at check-in. After we purchased the early bird tickets the price increased to $45 a ticket. For regular ticket holders there was a cash bar available, but for ticket holders who bought into the port wine package at $70 (early bird) or $75 (regular sale) pri…
